You are not going to visit a place you don't know anything about, as you wouldn't go to a war torn country. Same here, you wouldn't approach a troubled spot if you only knew what was going on in and around that place. If a travel agency doesn't reveal that, it would be to your advantage to check out the respective holiday's resort (or country's) newspaper.

 

What would you look out for and why: human rights is also important in the country you are destined to go, as is the crime rate in a specific neighborhood you are planning to visit; the cleanliness, as well as the cuisine of that resort must have a positive record or an overall good policy (4 stars upwards rating really helps).

Why? Ultimately, because you must preside over matters most dear and precious to you... like your life, for example.
